 Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen
 World Chess Champion

Magnus Carlsen is a chess Grandmaster and chess prodigy who is currently the number-one ranked player in the world. Born in Tønsberg, Carlsen currently lives in Lommedalen, near Oslo. In January 2010 he became the seventh player in history to be ranked number one in the world on the official FIDE rating list. His peak rating is 2848, the second highest in history (after Garry Kasparov).

On 26 April 2004 Magnus Carlsen became a Grandmaster at the age of 13 years, making him the third-youngest Grandmaster in history. On 1 January 2010 the new FIDE rating list was published, and at the age of 19 years, he became the youngest chess player in history to be ranked world number one, breaking the record previously held by Vladimir Kramnik. Magnus Carlsen was also the 2009 World blitz chess champion.

His performance at the September–October 2009 Nanjing Pearl Spring tournament has been described as one of the greatest in history and lifted him to an Elo rating of 2801, making him the fifth player to achieve a rating over 2800 – and aged 18 years 10 months at the time, by far the youngest to do so.

Based on his rating, Magnus Carlsen qualified for the Candidates Tournament which determined the challenger to World Champion Viswanathan Anand in the World Chess Championship 2012.

Magnus Carlsen met the World Champion Viswanathan Anand in India in November 2013 and Magnus Carlsen is now the new World Chess Champion.

Magnus Carlsen has stated on several occasions that his main goal for 2012 is to break Kasparov´s rating record at 2851. While Magnus Carlsen believes he will be able to beat the all-time rating record soon, he doesn´t believe that will make him the best chess player of all time yet, because of his young age. He considers Kasparov and Fischer the strongest players of all time.Magnus Carlsen is the new World Champion in Chess 2013.
