 Guttorm Guttormsgaard

Guttorm Guttormsgaard is a painter. He has primarily worked with graphics and drawing. Guttorm Guttormsgaard a graduate of the National Academy of Art and Design in Oslo Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. As an artist, he has conducted several public commissions, including the brick facade at the Oslo Spektrum, and numerous book illustrations.

Oslo Spektrum which was developed and designed by LPO and inaugurated in 1990, is awarded Oslo"s price-city architecture for 2004. Flexible, intimate stands with variable capacity; concert capacity is 10,800 people, capacity at hockey games is 7000. 400.000 stone, all different, are in place in town hall wall. 70,000 of them are hand painted. The tools in the processing of stone begitting, glaze and varying size. Press Fragments from Rolf Nesch (1893-1975) was used for embossing. The artists Guttorm Guttormsgaard and Søren Ubisch soon became engaged to refine the building"s exterior walls.

Picture term is often easy and expressionistic, often inspired by past use graphics. He has also taught drawing and graphics and was rector of the National Academy of Art from 1983 to 1984. Guttormsgaard currently has gallery and workshop in an old dairy in Blaker. There, he arranges exhibitions of posters, prints and various artifacts.

Guttorm Guttormsgaard has worked with a variety of media, with the main effort in graphics on one side and adornments on the other. In both fields carries his work was characterized by an unconventional and inventive use of materials and methods supported by both craftsmanship as aesthetic insight and skill. His production is technical and expressive variety, nevertheless is the artist personal grip clearly present. Energetic involvement is characteristic of Guttormsgaard business, be it as an artist, as a teacher or as an advocate for their profession and their condition. Key manifestations of his career as a graphic artist was a major exhibition at the Art Association in 1976 and a retrospective muster in the National Gallery in 1988.

Guttormsgaard main stage as a graphic artist coincided with a generally very active period in Norwegian art, and he contributed not only by its rich production, but also as strenuously advocating graphic"s uniqueness and special opportunities. Not least, he made a significant contribution as head of graphics department at the Art Academy in Oslo from 1979 to 1986, from 1980 as a professor. Guttormsgaard is represented with rich graphics and drawings at the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design.
