Strict requirements

All fish oil sent to the EU must comply with strict hygiene rules laid down in Commission Regulation (EC) No 1020/2008, including that the oil used must be suitable for human consumption. Purchasing of fish oil is done according to European Pharmacopeia, a standard that ensures quality and purity. In addition, we follow GOED (global organization for EPA and DHA), a standard that sets even more stringent requirements than European Pharmacopeia. European authorities, as well as major retail actors, conduct regular quality controls and document compliance with the guidelines. Public bodies regularly check that our suppliers comply with quality requirements.

Ensures consumer safety

As part of the Pfizer Group, Vesterålen Nature Products is a member of the Global Organization for EPA and DHA omega-3S (GOED). GOED consists of the market´s leading manufacturers and suppliers of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, and sets a high ethical standard for its members. Vesterålen Nature Products guarantees that all products released on the market meet the applicable quality standards; GOOD, European Pharmacopeia, as well as regulatory requirements. This can be documented through manufacturer´s analysis certificates and analyzes by third parties (Eurofins).

Omega-3 fatty acids are recovered from the whole fish, not just the liver. After the oil has undergone the necessary steps in the refining and manufacturing process, they add vitamins and minerals we may want the finished product to contain. Furthermore, the oil is encased in gelatin (cattle), Halal and Kosher approved.

Where does the oil come from?

The oil in our fish oil capsules is exclusively derived from fatty pelagic fish (anchovy and sardines) from the Pacific, more specifically off the coast of South America (Peru and Chile). Due to the low levels of pollutants, and a natural high content of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, these raw materials are very beneficial for the recovery of omega-3 oil. For the production of fish oil for human consumption, strict requirements are imposed on quality. There is used raw material fished by boats with refrigeration plants. Ie that the fish cools to -1 degree when it comes on board. It takes 24 hours before the boat arrives. From the fishing area in South America, oil comes to Canada where purification, refining and concentration occur according to our specifications. The finished oil is shipped to our suppliers for production and encapsulation.
