Hobøl is a muncipality in the middle of the county Østfold- not far from cities and towns like Oslo, Ski, Moss, and Askim. Hobøl is therefore quite central with both rail and the main highway E18 running through the muncipality. Hobøl muncipality has approximately 4.600 inhabitants and covers a area of 144,0 km2. Farming and forestry have always been important for settling and employment in Hobøl. Tomter, Knapstad and Ringvoll is the three largest residential areas in the muncipality.
Hobøl has traditionally been a shire characterised by primary industry, in which farming and forestry have been principal employers. The large forestry areas provide good opportunities for recreation, hunting, fishing, and experiencing the adventures of local history.
The main attractions are Prestegårdshagen a museum, Hobøl Church a stone church from the 1200. Mjuke Bridge a stone bridge belived to be at least 200 years old. Simular bridge was built from 1775 to 1850. Several museum: Nordalen saw from 1883, Tomter old school from 1858, Sulebru from 1700 and a private museum Vestre Bråte Farm one of the oldest in the County lies in Ytre Hobøl.
