Lindås municipality has approximately 13.780 inhabitants and covers a area of 475,9 km2. The coastline is approximately 375 km with 531 islands. In east against Modalen and Stølsheimen the mountain Sørdalsnuten 957 meters. The main industry is based on Statoil Mongstad. Statoil refinery which stores and refines oil from fields in the North Sea and is the biggest employer with approximately 700 employe in Nordhordland. The main attractions are the burial mounds Kongshaugene at Seim, peat dust at Lygra, roadchurch at Vike and different museums and collections.

KNARVIK

Knarvik Senter, the regional centre for Nordhordland, is a natural meeting place for commerce and culture. In the 1960s and 1970s Knarvik grew rapidly; new residential areas were built as well as shops, industry and public service offices. It has been expanding steadily ever since and now has almost 60 shops of all kinds. There is also a chemist, doctor, dentist, police station and rural police service. The Tourist Information Office is just 50 m from the centre.

From Knarvik, continue to Eikangervåg. Read more about what is worth seeing around Knarvik and on the road to Eikangervåg in the description of the E-39 - RV 570 route on pages 26-33. At Eikangervåg you can turn left for Fammestad, where you will find the Roparhaug Collection. This collection highlights how people worked and lived in former times and contains a variety of utility objects and decorative items.

OIL and GAS

Bergen harbour with Mongstad is Europe´s second biggest harbour.

LOCKS

Lindåslocks was built from 1899 to 1908 and was in use to 1963. The lock is 38 meters long, 7,6 meters wide and 3,5 metres deep.

The collection gives a picture of working methods and lifestyle in days past, and contains utility and decorative articles of various kinds. Guided tours by appointment.

LINDÅS SCHOOL MUSEUM

BRUVOLL

Great outdoor experiences on nature trails and the Trondheim Post Road. Canoes for hire. Horse riding on fjord horses. Horse-drawn two and four-wheel carriages. Fenced-off area with chickens, ducks, turkeys and goats. Sami tent. Contact Bruvoll Camping.

CANOEING

There are many great small sea bays and river systems in Lindås that are excellent for canoeing and kayaking. Some of them have picnic sites for canoeists and others users of these lovely areas. Vågseidet, Risa and Lindås are good places from which to set off in your canoe/kayak. Hundvensvatnet (by Bruvoll Camping) or Vikavatnet lakes are good starting points for canoeing/ kayaking in river systems. Special canoeing map.

THE BEECH WOOD

Vollom near Seim is the location of the world’s northernmost wild-growing beech wood. Prepared, sign-posted trails (approx. 1.5 km).

THE TRONDHEIM POST ROAD

Parts of the old Post Road to Trondheim through Lindås have been prepared for walkers. Signed from Hundvin (parking by shop or church) to Skodvin (Vågseidet). Easy walking (approx. 6 km).

FISHING

There is good fjord and sea fishing in Nordhordland. Not far to the west there are a lot of good fishing spots in the sea, where you can catch large cod, catfish and other types of fish. The open sea, the sounds and the calm waters of the fjords offer many good places to fish both from a boat or from the shore; salmon, trout, mackerel, cod, saithe, ling, pollack, tusk, halibut, flounder, angler fish and catfish. Get hold of a good sea chart with information about depth and the sea bed, and an angling guide with information about where to find the various species of fish together these can provide you with a fine catch!

Some of the fjord and sea fishing spots in our region are Lurefjorden just north of Lurekalven, Lurosen, The Fensfjord, Austfjorden, Risasjøen. The Stone Age site at Straume by Fonstraum bridge. For thousands of years this has been one of the best fishing spots in Hordaland. Toska there are many good fishing spots along the interesting road from Manger to Toska. The road which follows the curves of the coast, is an attraction in itself. Øyanevegen road from Austrheim out to Sævrøy, Krossøy and Baløy many good fishing spots along the way.
