Bindal, the southernmost municipality in Nordland County is famous for its boat-building traditions. The local Bindal-boats are still built here, and a regatta is held at the end of June each year. Bindal has approximately 1,650 inhabitants and borders on the county of Nord-Trøndelag in the south. Bindal has area of 1.264,7 km2 with a varying and beautiful nature. Industry is based on primary industries such as forestry and agriculture, which have played a central role in Bindal´s history from ancient times. The forestry company Bindalsbruket AS is the largest single employer in the area with around 150 employees. There are plenty of lodgings in Bindal, including a camp site, cabins, houses and hotels, many with fishing opportunities and boats. HEILHORNET
From the peak of Heilhornet, (1,058 metres), you can see far over the ocean, mountains and towns on a clear day.

THE NORDLAND BOAT REGATTA
Every year during the last weekend of June, Terråk is host to a regatta of traditional Nordland boats. It is Norway’s largest muster of Nordland boats.
VASSAS
At Vassas you can start from Vassas Church and follow the cultural memorial trail to the big Viking graves and onwards down to Bindal Farm Museum (Bygdetun). Today, the Farm Museum is an active museum. To get to Vassas and the municipal centre of Terrak, you have to turn off the RV 17 and take the RV 801. Only 1 km from the ferry at Holm lies a blazed trail which displays nature, history and a number of burial mounds.

The Bindalsfjord has a great variety of fish and is popular with both visiting and local fishing enthusiasts. There are also numerous fishing rivers and lakes that offer great opportunities for a peaceful and relaxing nature experience in beautiful surroundings. Ocean fish farming has replaced most of traditional fishing. Bindal is renowed for its boat-buidling traditions, and especially for the Bindal four-oared boat. The area is rich on minerals (gold).
