Brønnøy municipality has approximately 7.550 inhabitants and covers a area of 1.041,8 km2. Brønnøysund is the center of commerce, communication and service in the South-Helgeland region. The Coastal Road runs through the municipality.

BRØNNØYSUND

Brønnøysund is located on the southern fringe of Nordland County. The principal industries are public and privat services, agriculture and mining. The local restaurants are widely recognized for their fine food. Brønnøysund´s tourist marina is one of the most popular on the Nordland coastline. Deep sea fishing and a hike in the mountains, topped with a night on the town, can easily be done between sunrise and sunset.

Everything nature has to offer, is within a short distance. In the east, fjords strech toward mountains with permanent snow and ice. In the west, thousands of islands, inlets, and sounds invite you to a coastal experience you won´t find anywhere else. You will easily find your own, special idyll here. Mount Torghatten is one of nature's most peculiar wonders. The Coastal Steamer (Hurtigruten) calls in Brønnøysund in the afternoon, and this always creates some animation in the docks. See the pictures from the Coastal Steamer taken by one of our passengers.

A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE

The World´s Most Beautiful Voyage is a voyage like no other. Nothing can compare with it. Nothing about this journey will resemble anything you have ever experienced before. A ticket for the Coastal Steamer is a ticket to the theatre, an 11-day drama in which new acts constantly unfold all around you.

TORGHATTEN

For hundreds of years Torghatten has been visited by kings, emperors and tourists. Tradition has it that the hole in Torghatten was made by an arrow from Hestmannen (the Horseman). The Saga also narrate how the many mountains along our coast came to be. The hole in Torghatten is 160 metres long, 35 metres high and 15-20 metres wide. You are sure to be awed by the relentless forces of nature that have been at work for thousands of years. Torghatten lies only 15 kilometres away from Brønnøysund. You cross the Brønnøysund Bridge to the island Torget, which was a centre of power in the Viking Era. There is a good track leading to the hole (approximately 20 minutes on foot).

LOMSDAL

The Lomsdal river is unique in western Europe, and there are plans to make the area a national park to protect its unspoilt wilderness. Lomsdal has very good opportunities for walks and hikes.

HILDURS HERB GARDEN

This is the only herbarium and vineyard in Norway, situated on Tilrem Farm. In the old manor, you find old furniture, antiques, a library and copies of farm equipment from 800 AC. The oldest part of the building dates back to the 18. century. At the farm there is also a pond for geese and ducks, animals, a shop, a prehistorical place of worship and other findings from the same period as well as a church ruin dating back to the 11. century.

Refreshments are served in the old part of the manor where our host and hostess still live. Homemade wine based on ingredients from the garden and the surrounding nature is served. Please book in advance. Season: All year round but the garden is at its most beautiful from July to September.

SKARSÅSEN COASTAL FORTRESS

Skarsåsen Kystfort is a fortification from the Second World War. Today, it is an attractive vista and excursions area. Information boards will tell you about the war history.

TOSEENVEIEN ROAD

We recommend a trip to Velfjord. Idyllic places such as Nevernes, where a Nordland-Boat Regatta takes place every year, can be found here. Just 2 km west of Hommelstø stands one of North Norway´s oldest timber churches from 1674. We also recommend a visit to Velfjord Bygdetun (local museum), four kilometres southeast of Hollestø, or to the farm Aanes, a farm cheese factory, in Nordfjellmark.

TRÆLNES

In this village about 30 km south of Brønnøysund, you can visit Monica’s pottery. Also visit nearby Ellen’s Boutique with a sales exhibit in Trappen Gallery featuring hand- crafted textiles and sale of home-baked goods.
