Fauske municipality has approximately 9.500 inhabitants and covered a area of 1.210,4 km2. Fauske's town centre has every faciliy a traveller could wish for. Good hotels and restaurants, garages, chemists, off license, travel agent, banks and tourist information.
The Fauske municipality also includes Valnesfjord, a fine center for outdoor life in both summer and winter. Sulitjelma is a former mining community surrounded by majestic mountains and glaciers. MARBLE
Fauske is perhaps best known for its marble. Norwegian Rose as it is called, adorns amongst others the UN building in New York, the Japanese Emperor's Palace and Oslo Town Hall. In addition to the Ankerske marble quarry and factory, there is a dedicated marble shop together with a local museum and highways museum. And if you want to "go underground", the Tourist Office arranges cave tours.
CROSSROAD
Fauske is primarely the crossroad in the district of Salten. To the west the road 80 leads to Bodø and Saltstraumen. To the east Rv 830 will take you to Sulitjelma. The North-Bound traveller changes here from train to the coaches of the "Northern Norway Express". FISHING
Deep sea fishing enthusiasts can take a fishing trip out on the ocean. You can fish for salmon, cod and halibut. Be aware that there are a number of special rules in regards to fishing. Remember to purchase a fishing licence.
